Health and Well-being Benefits

Traditional saunas offer a wide range of health benefits, particularly when it comes to your physical and mental well-being. These benefits include:

  1. Improved Circulation: Traditional saunas, with their higher temperatures and steam, promote vasodilation, leading to increased blood flow. This can help improve circulation, lower blood pressure, and support overall cardiovascular health.
  2. Enhanced Detoxification: Sweating profusely in a traditional sauna can aid in the removal of toxins from the body through the skin. This deep sweating can cleanse the pores and promote a sense of detoxification.
  3. Stress Reduction: The soothing heat and steam in traditional saunas can induce a state of relaxation, helping to reduce stress and relieve tension. The ritual of sauna bathing itself can be a meditative experience.
  4. Respiratory Benefits: Inhaling the warm, moist air in traditional saunas can have a beneficial effect on the respiratory system. It may help ease symptoms of conditions like congestion, allergies, and asthma.
  5. Enhanced Skin Health: The combination of heat and steam in traditional saunas can promote healthy skin by opening up pores, removing dead skin cells, and improving skin tone and texture.

Luxury "Studio" 3-5 Person Traditional Outdoor Sauna Unique Features

Experience the perfect blend of modern aesthetics and nature's tranquility with our Luxury Studio Outdoor Sauna. The large slated full glass front provides a panoramic view of your natural surroundings, creating an immersive connection with the great outdoors.

This contemporary sauna features a sleek pent roof, adding to its visual appeal and providing shelter on the side for added convenience. The full glass front and luxurious full glass side door are not just visually stunning, but they are crafted using tempered glass. Our tempered glass not only retains heat effectively but also remains cool to the touch on the outside, ensuring effectiveness, your comfort as well as safety during sauna sessions.

Crafted from premium Canadian Hemlock wood, this sauna is a testament to quality and durability. To complete the look, a beautiful black gloss trim adds a touch of elegance to this already eye-catching "studio" sauna.

Also known as steam or conventional saunas, our traditional home saunas distinguish themselves from the infrared saunas we offer by utilising steam to elevate both heat and humidity, rather than relying on infrared heaters. Within these saunas, you have the autonomy to pour water onto the sauna stones as desired, granting you control over the sauna's conditions.

The interaction between cold water and red-hot stones is the mechanism responsible for elevating the temperature to approximately 70 to 100 degrees Celsius. It is within this optimal temperature range that you can begin to experience the myriad benefits associated with sauna usage. Our extensive range of sauna models ensures that, regardless of your budget or available space, we have the perfect sauna solution to meet your needs.

Before embarking on your sauna journey, it's crucial to understand that this sauna model is not a 13amp plug and play unit. Instead, it requires a dedicated hardwired electrical supply. Please take note of this important distinction as you prepare for the electrical setup of your sauna. (for more information, check our "Specifications | Foundations | Installation | Electrical" tab.)

Our Traditional Sauna Heaters

When it comes to traditional saunas, the choice of heater is paramount. That's why we trust Harvia, the global leader in wood-burning sauna stoves and electric sauna heaters, to provide the heart of our saunas.

With over seven decades of expertise, Harvia has set the gold standard for sauna heating solutions. We proudly feature Harvia heaters in our traditional saunas, ensuring that you experience sauna bliss at its finest.

The Harvia Vega Series stands out with its ingenious design. The controls are strategically positioned at the top, offering effortless and ergonomic operation. Our Harvia heaters guarantee even heat distribution across every inch of your sauna, including those lower benches where you love to relax.

Features of the Harvia Vega Series

  1. User-Friendly Integrated Control: Each Harvia Vega  model comes with an integrated control unit, simplifying the sauna heating process. With this user-friendly feature, you can effortlessly adjust settings to create your perfect sauna environment.
  2. Optimal Heat Distribution: Say goodbye to uneven heating. The wall-mounted design ensures that every corner of your sauna is enveloped in warmth.
  3. Durability and Aesthetics: The stainless steel shell not only guarantees durability but also adds a touch of modern sophistication to your sauna space.
  4. Natural Sauna Stones: Enhance your sauna experience with the addition of sauna stones. These stones boost heat and steam distribution, taking your relaxation to the next level.
  5. Finnish Craftsmanship: Crafted in Finland, these heaters embody Finnish excellence in design, engineering, and manufacturing.

Harvia Vega Sauna Stones

Sauna stones are the unsung heroes of the Finnish sauna tradition, and they play a pivotal role in elevating your Harvia sauna experience. Placed in a basket above the sauna's Harvia Vega stove, these rocks serve two primary functions that contribute to the unique and comforting atmosphere of your sauna:

  • Absorb and Retain Heat: Sauna stones are inherently thermally conductive, just like those used in our Harvia Vega heaters. This means they excel at absorbing and retaining heat. When placed inside the Harvia sauna, these stones absorb the heat generated by the Harvia Vega stove. As they slowly release this stored heat into the air, they help maintain a comfortably warm temperature in your sauna.
  • Produce Steam: To achieve their second function of producing steam, sauna stones, like those found in our Harvia Vega heaters, require contact with water. This is easily accomplished by ladling water onto the rocks periodically, and many Harvia sauna enthusiasts keep a bucket and ladle within their sauna for this purpose. When water is poured over the sauna stones in your Harvia Vega heater, it generates steam. It's important to note that this doesn't saturate the entire room with steam. Instead, it creates localised humidity, enhancing your sauna experience.

Harvia Vega Steam Sauna

The purpose of generating steam in our saunas with Harvia Vega heaters is not to envelop the entire room in steam but rather to amplify the sauna experience. The presence of steam encourages sweating and intensifies your body's perception of heat, making your Harvia sauna session more invigorating and effective.

Just as sauna stones are integral to the Finnish sauna tradition, they are equally essential to your Harvia sauna experience. Their unique ability to absorb and retain heat, coupled with their role in producing localised  steam, creates the distinct and comforting atmosphere that Harvia sauna enthusiasts worldwide have come to love. So, the next time you step into your sauna and see those rocks atop the Harvia Vega stove, you'll have a deeper appreciation for the role they play in enhancing your sauna experience.

In our traditional saunas, the steam effect is optional and can be easily achieved by pouring water, using the provided bucket and ladle, onto the sauna rocks. It's essential to keep in mind that the amount of steam produced is directly proportional to the amount of water you pour over the sauna rocks. This allows you to tailor your sauna experience to your preferences, ensuring that you enjoy the level of steam and humidity that suits you best.

Oxygen Ioniser for Clean Air

Maintaining clean air quality inside the sauna is paramount. Our oxygen ioniser works to purify the air, ensuring a fresh and comfortable environment. This is crucial for the overall well-being of sauna users, as clean air contributes to a more enjoyable and healthier experience.

Health Benefits of Oxygen Ionisation in Home Saunas:

  1. Improved Respiratory Health: The oxygen ionizer helps remove impurities and allergens from the air inside the sauna. This is particularly beneficial for individuals with respiratory issues such as asthma or allergies, as it can reduce the risk of inhaling irritants that may trigger symptoms.
  2. Enhanced Oxygenation: Clean air enriched with negative ions can improve the body's ability to absorb oxygen. This can lead to better oxygenation of the body's cells, which is essential for overall health and vitality.
  3. Stress Reduction: Negative ions generated by the oxygen ionizer have been linked to reduced stress and increased feelings of relaxation. Breathing in negatively ionised air can promote the release of serotonin in the brain, which is associated with mood improvement and stress reduction.
  4. Enhanced Mood: Clean air with increased negative ions can positively affect one's mood. It may help combat symptoms of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and contribute to an overall sense of well-being.
  5. Improved Immune Function: Some studies suggest that exposure to negative ions can boost the immune system's ability to defend against pathogens. By creating a healthier environment, the oxygen ionizer may indirectly support immune function.
  6. Allergen Reduction: The ionisation process can help reduce the presence of common allergens like dust mites, pollen, and pet dander in the air. This is particularly advantageous for individuals with allergies.
  7. Better Sleep: Improved air quality and reduced stress levels can lead to better sleep quality. Many users report more restful and rejuvenating sleep after sauna sessions in an environment with clean, negatively ionised air.

In summary, the oxygen ionizer in our saunas provides several health benefits that contribute to a more enjoyable and beneficial sauna experience. It enhances respiratory health, reduces stress, and promotes an overall sense of well-being by creating a clean and refreshing environment. This, in turn, can lead to improved mood, better sleep, and enhanced immune function, making your sauna sessions not only relaxing but also health-enhancing.

Chromatherapy Lighting for Relaxation

Our saunas are equipped with chromatherapy lighting, which employs coloured light to enhance relaxation and emotional balance. This feature adds an extra layer of tranquillity to your sauna sessions, promoting a sense of calm and well-being.

Mental Health Benefits of Chromatherapy Lighting:

  1. Stress Reduction: Different colours have been associated with varying emotional responses. For example, soft blues and greens are often linked to calmness and reduced stress levels. When chromatherapy lighting is integrated into a sauna, it can help create a soothing atmosphere, aiding in stress reduction and relaxation. This can be particularly valuable after a long and tiring day.
  2. Enhanced Mood: Colours can have a profound impact on our mood and emotions. Warm colours like red and orange are known for their stimulating and energising effects, while cooler colours like blue and violet can be calming and serene. The ability to select specific colours in the sauna allows users to tailor their experience to their mood, potentially lifting their spirits or promoting a sense of tranquillity.
  3. Emotional Balance: Chromatherapy is often used as a form of colour therapy. It is believed that exposure to certain colours can help balance emotions and promote emotional well-being. For example, green is often associated with harmony and balance, while purple is linked to spiritual growth. By incorporating these colours into sauna sessions, users may experience a heightened sense of emotional equilibrium.
  4. Relaxation and Mindfulness: Sauna sessions are already conducive to relaxation, but the addition of chromatherapy lighting can enhance this experience. The changing colours can act as a form of visual meditation, promoting mindfulness and mental clarity. This can be especially beneficial for individuals looking to de-stress and find inner peace.
  5. Positive Distraction: The play of colours can serve as a positive distraction, diverting the mind from daily concerns and worries. This can help users unwind and shift their focus to a more peaceful and enjoyable state of mind.
  6. Aromatherapy Synergy: Many users combine chromatherapy with aromatherapy in the sauna. Certain colours can be paired with specific scents to create a harmonious sensory experience that further enhances relaxation and mental well-being.

In conclusion, chromatherapy lighting in saunas offers a range of mental health benefits by influencing mood, reducing stress, promoting emotional balance, and enhancing relaxation. It adds an extra dimension to the sauna experience, making it not only physically rejuvenating but also emotionally uplifting. This holistic approach to well-being can contribute to a sense of calm and tranquillity, ultimately benefiting your mental health and overall quality of life.

High-quality Canadian Hemlock Wood

Like everything else, we take wood selection seriously, and that's why we exclusively use premium Canadian Hemlock wood for our saunas.

  1. Exceptional Durability: Canadian Hemlock is renowned for its exceptional durability. It's a wood that resists warping, cracking, and damage over the years, ensuring that your sauna maintains its structural integrity and appearance.
  2. Longevity: The choice of high-quality wood isn't just about aesthetics; it's about longevity. By selecting Canadian Hemlock, we are ensuring that your sauna investment pays off for years to come. This wood's natural resistance to wear and tear means that your sauna remains as beautiful and functional as the day it was installed.
  3. Aesthetics: Beyond its durability, Canadian Hemlock contributes to the overall aesthetics of our saunas. Its rich, warm appearance adds an inviting ambience to your sauna, creating a visually beautiful addition to your home or garden.

Toughened Glass Windows

Safety is paramount in our sauna design, and that's why we insist on using toughened glass windows. These windows not only enhance the sauna's aesthetic appeal but also serve a vital safety function.

  1. Enhanced Safety: Toughened glass is significantly stronger than regular glass, reducing the risk of breakage. In the unlikely event of a break, toughened glass shatters into small, relatively harmless fragments rather than sharp shards, minimising any potential harm.
  2. Durable Enclosure: Our toughened glass windows provide a secure and durable enclosure for your sauna. They are designed to withstand the temperature variations and humidity levels found in saunas, ensuring they remain reliable and safe for the long term.
  3. Unobstructed View: While safety is our priority, we also understand the value of enjoying the outside view from your sauna. Our toughened glass windows offer a clear and unobstructed view, allowing you to connect with nature and relish the beauty of your surroundings while in the comfort of your sauna.
  4. Premium Glass Quality: Just as we select the finest wood, we also insist on using only the best glass for both our indoor and outdoor saunas. This commitment to quality ensures that your sauna's windows maintain their integrity and transparency, contributing to a safer and more enjoyable sauna experience.

Easily Cleaned and Low Maintenance

Our saunas are designed with your comfort in mind, whether you have an indoor or outdoor sauna. Cleaning and upkeep should never overshadow your relaxation time.

  1. Simple Cleaning: Our saunas can be easily cleaned, both inside and outside, with minimal effort. You can simply wipe down the interior surfaces to remove any moisture or residue, ensuring that your sauna remains inviting and hygienic. For our outdoor saunas, this easy cleaning process extends to the exterior, allowing you to maintain the sauna's pristine appearance effortlessly.
  2. Low Maintenance: We've made sure that our saunas, whether indoor or outdoor, require minimal upkeep. You won't have to worry about time-consuming maintenance tasks, be it for the interior or exterior. Instead, you can focus on what truly matters – enjoying the soothing benefits of your sauna, without the added burden of extensive maintenance.

Foundations

A crucial part of achieving longevity and getting the most out of our new sauna is establishing a solid foundation. In this section, we'll delve into the essential considerations for the base and access to the sides of your sauna, guiding you through the process of creating the perfect foundation for your outdoor oasis.

Access for Assembly

For a seamless assembly of your outdoor sauna, access to all four sides is essential. We recommend providing approximately 300mm (about 12 inches) of clearance around the sauna to allow our installers to work effectively. However, more space is always appreciated.

In cases where the sauna is placed tightly into a corner or specific location, our experienced installers can build it slightly out of its final position and then maneuver it into place as needed. This adaptability ensures that we can accommodate various installation settings while maintaining the quality of our work.

Base

The sauna's foundation is the bedrock upon which your outdoor relaxation retreat will stand. To maintain the sauna's structural integrity and prevent warping over time, it's imperative that we assemble it on a level and sturdy surface. We do not recommend assembling the sauna on uneven ground, grass, or generally unsuitable surfaces. Instead, we advocate for the ideal base, which includes options such as concrete, tarmac, patio stones, or even gravel and crushed stone.

This specific model of sauna is equipped with numerous micro feet, ranging from 20 to 50, depending on the sauna's size. These feet serve a vital purpose by ensuring an even distribution of weight and stability. For reference, the net weight of outdoor saunas can vary significantly, ranging from 500kg for 2000 x 2000, to 640kg for 2800 x 2800.

To ensure proper weight distribution and stability, it is crucial that the majority of these feet are in contact with the ground. We emphasise "majority" because the exact number may vary based on your unique sauna installation. There is no one-size-fits-all value, as every installation has its unique characteristics.

However, it's crucial to avoid any substantial depressions or gullies on the base surface. A depression of more than 3/4 of an inch (20mm) at any point across the base can lead to undesirable consequences, such as the sauna's floor being pushed down or bowed up in the middle. This not only poses structural issues but also hinders your enjoyment of the sauna.

Note:

Our experienced fitters will not install the sauna on an uneven base, as it can cause complications and compromise the sauna's performance. This may result in the inconvenience of delaying your sauna installation until a suitable base is prepared.

How to Verify Your Sauna Base

Checking the solidity and levelness of your sauna base is crucial to ensure a flawless installation. You can follow these simple steps to confirm its suitability:

  • Use a level, a straight piece of material, alongside a spirit level to check for any rocking or depressions exceeding 3/4 of an inch (20mm).
  • For added peace of mind, consider consulting a local builder or landscaper to confirm that the surface is level, ensuring a solid foundation for your outdoor sauna.

Electrical

Electrical Guide for Your Sauna

Before embarking on your sauna installation journey, it's crucial to understand that this sauna model is not a 13amp plug and play unit. Instead, it requires a dedicated hardwired electrical supply. Please take note of this important distinction as you prepare for the electrical setup of your sauna. The following guide will walk you through the necessary steps to ensure a safe and efficient electrical connection.

Power Supply

The studio sauna requires either a 6kW electrical supply (3 Person and 4 Person) or 9kW electrical supply (5 Person) to function optimally. This electrical setup must be hardwired, providing a dedicated power source for your sauna. This connection will be made into a rotary isolator, which is a crucial component in the electrical setup of your sauna.

The rotary isolator serves as a safety switch and allows you to control the power supply to your sauna. It's an essential part of creating a secure and efficient electrical system for your sauna experience.

For expert guidance on wiring the rotary isolator from your fuse board and connecting it to your sauna's power supply, we recommend consulting with your local qualified electrician. They have the knowledge and expertise to ensure a safe and reliable electrical setup for your sauna.

Rotary Isolator Placement

Position the rotary isolator within 1-2 meters of the sauna, ensuring convenient access for electrical connection. Thus ensuring the cable length is sufficient for connection.

Booking an Electrician

Due to high demand for electricians, it's advisable to book their services in advance. This proactive approach helps streamline the installation process.

Choosing Your Timing

Depending on your preference, electrical work can be completed either before or after the physical sauna installation. If scheduled before installation, our team can connect the sauna to the rotary isolator, assuming it has been fitted by the electrician. Alternatively, if electrical work is planned after installation, the electrician can handle the connection without requiring their presence during sauna installation. The electrician does not need to be present on the day of installation.

Qualified Electrical Installation

Your safety is paramount when it comes to enjoying your Home Living Luxury sauna to the fullest. If you do not have a rotary isolator installed on your property (as pictured above), you will need to have one installed. To guarantee a secure and efficient electrical setup, it's imperative to entrust this task to a qualified electrician who is well-versed in adhering to BS 7671 regulations. This guide outlines the essential knowledge to make your hot tub experience both enjoyable and secure.

  • Qualified Electrician: All electrical connections for your new sauna must be carried out by a qualified electrician. The installation must conform to BS 7671 regulations to ensure your safety.
  • Residual Current Device (RCD): Your sauna must be supplied through a residual current device (RCD) with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA. This additional safety measure helps protect against electric shock.
  • Hardwired: The sauna requires a hardwired connection and the instructions above must be followed and understood by both yourself and your electrician.
  • Rotary Isolator Requirements: Ideally, it should be as close to the sauna as possible, we strongly recommend within 3 meters. This must have a minimum protection rating of IP66. Your electrician will be able to provide concise information regarding this.

By following these guidelines, you can confidently proceed with the electrical setup of your sauna. Should you have any specific questions or require further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us. We are committed to providing you with a safe and efficient electrical connection for your sauna experience.

Interior Sauna Wood Treatment (White Oil)

Elevate the longevity and aesthetics of your sauna with our premium Interior Sauna Wood Treatment. This meticulously crafted treatment not only nourishes the wood but also bestows a touch of elegance upon your sauna's interior. It acts as a natural barrier, safeguarding wood fibres from sweat-related discoloration, damage, and bacterial growth. Suitable for all sauna woods, this medical-grade treatment is free of toxins, fragrance, and colour. Protect your wooden surfaces from steam damage and unsightly sweat marks, ensuring your sauna remains pristine for years to come.

What is White Oil and Why is it Used in Sauna Treatment?

White oil, in the context of wood treatment, is a specific type of oil that is used to protect and enhance the appearance of wooden surfaces, particularly in saunas and other interior wood applications. Key characteristics and uses of white oil include:

  1. Colourless and Odourless: Suitable for environments like saunas where a natural and clean appearance is desired without introducing strong scents.
  2. Protective Barrier: Forms a protective barrier on wood surfaces, repelling moisture, sweat, and steam to prevent damage like warping, discoloration, or bacterial growth.
  3. Enhances Natural Wood Beauty: Brings out the wood's grain and colour, making it look richer and more vibrant.
  4. Non-Toxic and Safe: Safe for skin contact, making it suitable for saunas where people often sit or lean against the wood.
  5. Versatile Application: Suitable for various sauna woods, specifically Canadian Hemlock, and can be used on both new and existing wood surfaces.

Should I Oil My New Sauna's Wood Surfaces?

Oiled wood surfaces in saunas may initially appear dry, but this is natural. Variations in oil absorption across different parts of the wood can occur. To maintain appearance and enhance protection, consider oiling your sauna's wood when you first receive it. For ongoing wood protection and longevity, periodically use this product on your oiled sauna surfaces.

How to Apply White Oil to Your Sauna:
  • Step 1: Preparation
    1. Shake the white oil container before use to ensure proper mixing.
    2. Lightly sand the wood surface along the grain using a soft sanding sponge with a grit of 220.
    3. Remove sanding dust with a clean cloth.
    4. If necessary, clean the surface with a cloth well wrung out in lukewarm water with a few drops of uncolored, pH-neutral washing-up liquid.
    5. Wipe the surface with a clean, dry cloth.
    6. Allow the wood to dry for approximately two hours before using your sauna.

  • Step 2: Application
    1. Apply the white oil directly onto the wood surface in an even, thin layer.
    2. Gently rub the oil into the wood using an uncoloured cloth or sponge.
    3. After 2-3 minutes, wipe off any excess oil with a clean, dry cloth.
    4. Perform this step while the surface is still wet with oil.
    5. The oil will take up to two days to harden completely and provide maximum protection.

  • Step 3: Aftercare
    1. We recommend drying any rags or cloths used for applying oil outside.
    2. Once completely dry, they can be disposed of normally.
    3. Apply periodically, once every 4-6 months.

By following these steps, you can effectively apply white oil to your sauna's wood surfaces, enhancing their appearance and protecting them from sauna-specific conditions.

Sauna Health Benefits & Choosing Your Sauna

Sauna Health Benefits

Saunas have been revered for their potential health benefits for centuries, and today, modern science continues to uncover the therapeutic advantages they offer. In this section, we delve into the sauna's transformative effects on both body and mind. From improved circulation and detoxification to relaxation and pain relief, saunas have a lot to offer in the realm of wellness.

Whether you're considering a traditional wood-burning sauna or an infrared variant, understanding the health benefits can help you harness the full potential of this age-old practice for your well-being.

Improved Circulation

Sauna sessions stimulate the cardiovascular system by causing the heart rate to rise. This effect is similar to moderate exercise and can be particularly beneficial for individuals who may have limited mobility. The increased heart rate encourages blood vessels to dilate, allowing for better blood flow. As a result, your muscles and tissues receive more oxygen and nutrients, promoting overall cardiovascular health. Improved circulation can also help reduce the risk of hypertension and related heart issues.

Detox

Sweating is one of the body's natural ways to eliminate toxins. When you're in a sauna, your body's core temperature rises, prompting you to sweat profusely. This sweating process helps expel harmful substances such as heavy metals, chemicals, and pollutants from your body. Detoxification through sweating is considered an effective way to support the body's natural detox processes, although it's essential to re-hydrate afterwards to replace lost fluids.

Relaxation and Stress Reduction

Saunas are renowned for their relaxation benefits. The dry, enveloping heat in traditional saunas and the gentle warmth in infrared saunas create a tranquil atmosphere. This environment allows your muscles to relax, reducing tension and promoting a sense of calm. Furthermore, the heat triggers the release of endorphins, which are natural mood enhancers. Regular sauna use can help manage stress, anxiety, and even symptoms of depression.

Pain Relief

Heat therapy is a well-established method for relieving pain. Sauna heat can soothe sore muscles and joints, making it an effective treatment for various conditions, including arthritis, fibromyalgia, and muscle strains. The heat promotes muscle relaxation, increases blood flow to the affected areas, and may reduce inflammation, resulting in pain relief.

Improved Skin Health

Sauna-induced sweating opens up pores and cleanses the skin. As you sweat, impurities, dead skin cells, and excess oil are expelled, potentially reducing the risk of acne and promoting clearer skin. Additionally, the improved circulation from sauna use brings essential nutrients and oxygen to the skin's surface, contributing to a healthier complexion.

Weight Management

Sauna use can complement weight management efforts. While it's not a substitute for exercise and a balanced diet, the increased heart rate and sweating in a sauna can lead to calorie burning. However, it's important to note that the calorie expenditure is relatively modest compared to traditional exercise. Saunas are most effective when used as part of a holistic weight management plan.

Enhanced Respiratory Function

The warm, humid air in saunas can be especially beneficial for individuals with respiratory conditions. It helps open airways, making breathing easier. For people with asthma or bronchitis, sauna sessions may provide relief from symptoms by reducing airway constriction and promoting better lung function.

Better Sleep

Sauna-induced relaxation and stress reduction can have a positive impact on sleep quality. After a sauna session, many individuals report falling asleep faster and experiencing deeper, more restful sleep. The relaxation effect of saunas can help calm the mind, making it easier to unwind before bedtime.

Mental Well-Being

Beyond the physical benefits, saunas offer significant mental health advantages. The serene environment inside a sauna, free from distractions, allows for meditation and reflection. This mental solitude can lead to greater self-awareness, clarity of thought, and emotional balance. Endorphin release during sauna sessions contributes to a sense of well-being and improved mood.

Immune System Support

Sauna use may have a positive impact on the immune system. The increased body temperature triggers the production of white blood cells, which play a crucial role in defending against infections. Regular sauna sessions can strengthen the immune system, potentially reducing the risk of illness. However, sauna use alone should not be relied upon as a primary method of immune system support but can be a valuable addition to a healthy lifestyle.

Closing Remarks

It's important to emphasise that the benefits of sauna use can vary from person to person, and individual experiences may differ. Additionally, moderation is key, as excessive sauna use can lead to dehydration or other health issues. If you have underlying medical conditions or are pregnant, consult with a healthcare professional before incorporating saunas into your routine. Overall, when used responsibly, saunas offer a wealth of physical and mental health benefits, contributing to a healthier and more vibrant life.

In contrast, Infrared Saunas provide a contemporary, efficient, and wellness-focused experience that can be enjoyed in various settings. Your decision depends on whether you value tradition, communal rituals, and cultural significance or prioritise modern comforts, customisation, and the potential health benefits associated with sauna therapy. Each offers its unique path to relaxation and well-being, ensuring a rewarding sauna experience.

FIR heaters are also efficient, but their speciality lies in their ability to penetrate the body's tissues more deeply.

This deeper penetration can result in therapeutic benefits.

Health Benefits

Comfort Heating: Infrared Carbon Heaters offer a comfortable and relaxing sauna experience. They gently warm your body, helping you unwind and relieve stress after a long day. The soothing warmth can promote relaxation and alleviate tension in muscles.

Mild Therapeutic Effects: While primarily designed for comfort heating, Infrared Carbon Heaters can provide mild therapeutic benefits. They can help with temporary relief from muscle stiffness, mild joint discomfort, and promote general relaxation.

Pain Relief: FIR heaters are often chosen for their potential to provide pain relief. The deep penetration of far-infrared radiation can soothe sore muscles and joints. This makes FIR saunas popular among individuals seeking relief from chronic conditions like arthritis or muscle strains.

Improved Circulation: FIR radiation can promote improved blood circulation. Enhanced circulation may contribute to better oxygen and nutrient delivery to cells and tissues, potentially aiding in the body's natural healing processes.

Relaxation and Stress Reduction: FIR saunas are known for their ability to induce deep relaxation. The gentle, penetrating heat can help reduce stress and promote a sense of well-being, making them valuable for relaxation and mental rejuvenation.

Detoxification: FIR saunas are believed to support the body's detoxification processes by promoting sweating. Sweating in a FIR sauna may help eliminate toxins and impurities from the body, contributing to a feeling of overall well-being.

Infrared Carbon Heaters offer a blend of near and far-infrared radiation, creating a comforting sauna environment with mild therapeutic effects.

On the other hand, FIR Heaters emit exclusively far-infrared radiation, making them a preferred choice for those seeking deeper therapeutic benefits, from pain relief to improved circulation and relaxation. The decision ultimately hinges on your sauna goals, whether they involve unwinding and relaxation or pursuing specific health benefits. Whichever path you choose, both options offer unique avenues to enhance your well-being within the warmth of the sauna.

How Our Saunas Are Made

How Our Saunas Are Made

At Home Living Luxury, we take pride in our close collaboration with our trusted suppliers and dedicated installation team, who share our unwavering commitment to delivering premium saunas. We understand that the choice of materials and construction methods plays a crucial role in the overall performance and longevity of a sauna.

In this section, we delve into the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into creating our saunas, made possible through our strong partnerships and shared values.

  1. Quality Wood Selection
  2. Premium Heaters
  3. Insulation
  4. Toughened Glass
  5. Easy Assembly

Quality Wood Selection

The choice of wood in sauna construction plays a pivotal role in determining its overall quality and durability. We prioritise the use of premium Canadian Hemlock wood, setting a standard that sets us apart in the industry. We recognise that not all saunas are created equal, and the quality of the wood used is of paramount importance. In this section, we will explore what makes Canadian Hemlock wood exceptional and how it compares to other commonly used wood options in sauna construction.

Canadian Hemlock

Canadian Hemlock is characterised by its slow growth, conical growth pattern, and soft, fine needles. The needles exhibit a dark green hue on their upper sides and a lighter green shade on their undersides. As the tree matures, its bark typically takes on a rust or cinnamon red colour. With a remarkable lifespan, Canadian Hemlock trees can reach heights of up to 80 feet. These trees thrive in moist but well-drained soil conditions, and due to their shallow root system, they require protection from strong winds.

 Criteria
Canadian Hemlock
Other Wood Options
Durability Canadian Hemlock is renowned for its durability and resistance to warping. It can withstand the high temperatures and humidity levels of saunas without compromising its structural integrity.

While other woods like Cedar are also used, they may not offer the same level of durability. Cedar, for example, is naturally resistant to decay and insects but may not be as resistant to warping in the sauna environment.

Heat Retention Canadian Hemlock's heat retention properties are well-suited for saunas. It efficiently retains heat, contributing to a consistent and enjoyable sauna experience.

Other woods may have different heat retention characteristics. Cedar, for example, is known for its natural insulation properties but may not retain heat as efficiently as Canadian Hemlock.

Moisture Resistance Canadian Hemlock exhibits good resistance to moisture, making it suitable for sauna use. Its ability to withstand the high humidity levels in saunas ensures the wood remains in excellent condition over time. Other wood types might have varying levels of resistance to moisture. It's essential to consider how well a particular wood type can handle the sauna's humidity and temperature conditions.
Aesthetic Appeal Canadian Hemlock provides a natural and elegant aesthetic to your sauna. Its light, even grain and minimal knots create a soothing and inviting atmosphere, enhancing the overall sauna experience.

Other woods, such as Cedar or Redwood, offer their unique beauty with distinct grain patterns and colour variations. While these woods are visually appealing, their aesthetic may differ from Canadian Hemlock.

Sustainability Canadian Hemlock is typically sourced from well-managed forests, ensuring a sustainable supply. Choosing wood from responsibly managed forests contributes to the environmental sustainability of sauna construction.

The sustainability of other wood types can vary depending on their source. Some may come from forests with less rigorous environmental management practices. It's essential to verify the sustainability of the wood used in saunas made with alternative materials.

Price Point Canadian Hemlock saunas typically offer a competitive price point, making them an attractive option for those seeking a high-quality sauna experience without breaking the bank. Saunas made with other wood types, especially exotic or rare woods, can come at a premium price due to the rarity and cost of sourcing and processing the wood. The price point for these saunas may be significantly higher than Canadian Hemlock saunas.

Closing Remarks

When it comes to selecting the wood for your sauna, Canadian Hemlock stands out as an excellent choice for its unmatched combination of durability, aesthetic appeal, sustainability, heat retention, and resistance to moisture. While other wood types like Cedar or Redwood have their merits, Canadian Hemlock's consistent quality and performance make it the preferred option for those seeking a premium and long-lasting sauna experience. With Canadian Hemlock, you can be confident that your sauna investment is built to last while providing a visually pleasing and sustainable addition to your home wellness space.

Premium Heaters

Traditional Heaters
Electric Heaters

Infrared Heaters
Carbon Heaters

Carbon infrared heaters offer an alternative to the commonly used tungsten wire filaments in electrical infrared heaters. Tungsten wire is typically coiled to increase its surface area for efficient heating. However, there are alternatives for situations where lower temperatures are preferred. One such alternative is carbon filaments, or alloys of iron, chromium, and aluminium known by the trademark and brand name 'Kanthal.' While producing carbon filaments can be more challenging, they have the advantage of heating up rapidly compared to medium-wave heaters based on FeCrAl (iron, chromium, and aluminium alloy) filaments.

Carbon infrared heaters are chosen for specific applications and situations due to their unique characteristics and advantages. Here's why they are used:

  1. Rapid Heating: Carbon filaments heat up much more quickly than traditional tungsten filaments. This rapid heating is advantageous in situations where immediate heat is required, such as in saunas or industrial processes.
  2. Efficiency: Carbon infrared heaters are highly efficient at converting electrical energy into heat. Their ability to generate heat quickly and effectively makes them an energy-efficient choice, helping to save on energy costs.
  3. Temperature Control: Carbon heaters offer precise temperature control, allowing users to adjust and maintain the desired heat levels with accuracy. This makes them suitable for applications where temperature regulation is critical.
  4. Even Heat Distribution: Carbon heaters provide even and consistent heat distribution across their surface area. This feature ensures that heat is evenly spread, avoiding hot spots and cold areas, which is essential for many heating applications.
  5. Durability: Carbon filaments are known for their durability and longevity. They can withstand high temperatures and frequent use without significant degradation, making them a reliable choice for long-term applications.
  6. Versatility: Carbon infrared heaters can be used in various settings, from saunas and industrial processes to outdoor heating and automotive applications. Their versatility makes them a valuable option for a wide range of heating needs.
  7. Customisation: Manufacturers can tailor carbon infrared heaters to meet specific requirements, including size, shape, and heating capacity, making them suitable for a variety of custom applications.

In summary, carbon infrared heaters are chosen for their ability to provide rapid, efficient, and controllable heat. Their even heat distribution, durability, and versatility make them a preferred choice in situations where these characteristics are crucial for heating processes and applications.

Far Infrared Heaters

Far Infrared (FIR) heating technology represents a significant advancement in the world of heating. This technology is employed in selected premium models, such as high-end infrared saunas and space heaters. FIR heaters utilize low watt density ceramic emitters, often in the form of larger panels, to emit long wave infrared radiation. What sets them apart is their ability to provide a unique heating experience, offering a range of benefits that have made them popular among individuals seeking a more comfortable and health-conscious heating solution.

Why Far Infrared Heaters Are Used and How They Work

Far Infrared heaters are chosen for specific applications due to their remarkable qualities. Unlike traditional heating methods, FIR heaters operate at relatively low temperatures, eliminating emissions and unpleasant odours caused by dust, dirt, formaldehyde, or toxic fumes from paint coatings. This makes them a preferred choice, particularly in Europe, for people with allergies and multiple chemical sensitivities.

These heaters rely on low watt density ceramic emitters that produce long wave infrared radiation. The unique aspect of FIR technology is that it doesn't directly heat the air in a room but maximises the exposure of surfaces, allowing them to re-emit warmth evenly and create an ambient warmth throughout the space.

The efficiency of FIR heaters depends on matching the emitted wavelength with the absorption spectrum of the material to be heated. For example, water and water-based coatings absorb medium-wave or carbon infrared radiation well, making ceramic heaters suitable for these applications.

Closing Remarks

In selected premium models, we have incorporated Far Infrared heating technology to provide you with an exceptional heating experience. By embracing this technology, we aim to deliver not just warmth but also comfort and health-conscious heating solutions for your needs. Whether you are enjoying the soothing warmth of an infrared sauna or the cosy atmosphere created by a space heater, Far Infrared heaters are designed to enhance your well-being while keeping you comfortable and relaxed.

Insulation

Insulation is a vital component of sauna construction, and we employ a highly effective 'air gap' insulation method. This innovative approach creates a layer of air between the interior sauna panel walls and the exterior cladding.

How it works: Air gap insulation capitalises on air's poor heat conductivity, preventing the direct transfer of heat through the walls. This results in superior heat retention within the sauna, ensuring that your sauna stays comfortably hot while minimising heat loss to the exterior.

Air gap vs man-made insulation: Unlike traditional insulation materials that can be combustible at sauna operating temperatures and potentially release harmful fumes, our 'air gap' insulation is inherently safer. It offers excellent heat retention without associated risks, aligning with our commitment to wellness.

Aspect
 Our 'Air Gap' Insulation
Other Saunas Utilising 'Man-Made' Insulation
Harmful Fumes

'Air Gap' insulation doesn't involve the use of synthetic materials that can emit harmful fumes when heated.

This means there's no risk of indoor air pollution or exposure to potentially toxic substances during sauna sessions.

Some man-made insulation materials, when subjected to high temperatures, may release harmful fumes.

These fumes can compromise indoor air quality and contradict the wellness-oriented goals of sauna use.

Heat Retention

The 'Air Gap' insulation method is highly effective at retaining heat within the sauna cabin. The layer of air serves as an insulating barrier, minimising heat loss to the exterior.

This ensures that the sauna maintains a consistent and comfortable interior temperature.

Man-Made Insulation: Traditional insulation materials are also capable of retaining heat effectively.

However, in the context of saunas, the safety concerns associated with these materials can detract from their heat retention benefits.

Safety Air Gap Insulation: Safety is a paramount consideration in sauna design, and 'Air Gap' insulation aligns perfectly with safety goals. Its non-combustible nature and lack of harmful emissions make it a safe choice for sauna construction, promoting a secure and wellness-focused environment. Man-Made Insulation: Man-made insulation materials can pose safety risks in saunas due to their combustible nature and the potential release of harmful substances when exposed to high temperatures. These safety concerns can undermine the overall sauna experience.
Combustibility

'Air Gap' insulation consists of a layer of air between the interior walls and the exterior cladding of the sauna.

Air itself is non-combustible and acts as a barrier to prevent the direct transfer of heat. It doesn't catch fire even at the high temperatures found in saunas, ensuring the safety of sauna users.

Traditional insulation materials, such as fibreglass or foam board, can be combustible when exposed to the extreme heat generated in saunas.

This combustibility poses a potential fire hazard, which is a significant safety concern.

Alignment with Wellness 'Air Gap' insulation is in line with the wellness values associated with saunas. It ensures a safe and comfortable sauna environment, allowing users to fully enjoy the health and relaxation benefits of sauna therapy without compromising their well-being.

Man-Made Insulation: Traditional insulation materials may conflict with wellness goals in saunas due to safety concerns and the potential release of harmful fumes.

These issues can detract from the overall wellness experience, which saunas are designed to promote.

Closing Remarks

In conclusion, our 'Air Gap' insulation method outshines traditional man-made insulation in every aspect. It guarantees safety by eliminating fire hazards and harmful fumes, making it ideal for a wellness-focused environment. Furthermore, it excels in heat retention, ensuring a consistent and comfortable sauna experience. With 'Air Gap' insulation, we prioritise safety, efficiency, and overall well-being, making it the preferred choice for everyone involved..

Toughened Glass

When it comes to the quality of glass used in saunas, it's essential to consider its ability to withstand high temperatures and provide safety for users. Below, we compare toughened glass, which we use in our saunas, with other common glass types found in sauna construction.

 Aspect
Toughened Glass
Standard / Double Glazing
Heat Resistance Toughened glass is specifically engineered to withstand high temperatures, making it ideal for sauna use. It can endure the extreme heat without warping or cracking, ensuring long-lasting performance.

Other glass types, such as standard glass, may not be designed to withstand the intense heat of saunas. They can warp, crack, or even shatter when exposed to the sauna's high temperatures, compromising safety and durability.

Heat Insulation Toughened glass plays a crucial role in maintaining heat insulation within the sauna. It efficiently retains the sauna's heat, ensuring a consistently comfortable sauna experience.

Other glass types may not provide the same level of heat insulation. They may allow heat to escape more easily, leading to temperature fluctuations and less efficient sauna sessions.

Durability Toughened glass is known for its durability. It can withstand frequent temperature changes and is less likely to break or shatter compared to standard glass. This durability contributes to the long-term reliability of your sauna.

Standard glass may be more prone to breakage when exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations. Its lower durability can lead to frequent replacements and increased maintenance costs.

Condensation

Effective at resisting condensation. Once your sauna is operational for about 10-15 minutes, any initial condensation usually clears up naturally.

However, we provide one complimentary bottle of condensation solution for all of our outdoor saunas, which has been tried and tested on our saunas. This solution can be applied for added protection if needed, ensuring an uninterrupted and enjoyable sauna experience.

Typical standard glass is more prone to condensation. It could take longer for condensation to dissipate, potentially affecting your sauna experience. Additional condensation prevention measures are necessary.

Safety Toughened glass enhances safety during sauna use. It remains cool to the touch on the outside, reducing the risk of burns or injuries. This safety feature is crucial for the well-being of sauna users.

Standard glass does not have the same safety features as toughened glass. It can become hot to the touch, increasing the risk of burns for sauna users.

Price Point Saunas equipped with toughened glass typically offer competitive pricing, considering the high-quality materials used. This makes them an attractive option for those seeking a safe and durable sauna experience without breaking the budget.

Saunas with standard glass may be available at a lower initial cost. However, the potential need for frequent replacements and reduced safety features could result in long-term expenses that surpass the initial savings.

Closing Remarks

Choosing a sauna with toughened glass ensures both safety and durability, providing a worry-free and enjoyable sauna experience. Its ability to withstand high temperatures, remain cool to the touch, and contribute to heat insulation makes it a superior choice for sauna construction. While saunas with standard glass may appear cost-effective initially, they may not offer the same level of safety and longevity. In the long run, investing in a sauna with toughened glass proves to be a wise choice, as it enhances the safety, durability, and overall quality of your sauna experience.

While we maintain our commitment to easy assembly, there are additional considerations when it comes to these models. Correctly assembling our outdoor saunas is crucial to ensure they remain watertight, preventing potential issues such as wood rot and structural damage.

Variety in Outdoor Saunas: Tailored Instructions for Every Model

Our outdoor saunas offer a diverse range of options, each with its unique features. From infrared to traditional saunas with wood-burning chimneys and flues, to corner saunas, barrel saunas, and bespoke custom builds, the variety in our outdoor sauna lineup requires tailored assembly instructions.

For this reason, we cannot provide a universal assembly manual for our outdoor saunas. The intricacies and nuances of each model necessitate specific guidance. You will find detailed installation instructions for your particular outdoor sauna on our "Specifications | Foundations | Assembly | Electrical" tab. These model-specific instructions ensure that you receive accurate guidance, allowing you to assemble your sauna correctly and enjoy it to the fullest.

Professional Assembly Recommended for Quality Assurance

We highly recommend that our outdoor saunas are assembled by either our expert installers or an independent contractor, such as your local joiner. This step is crucial to guarantee proper assembly and minimise any potential issues. Incorrect assembly can compromise the integrity of the sauna, leading to long-term problems.

Electrical Work by Qualified Electricians

Additionally, unless explicitly stated otherwise, all our outdoor saunas will require electrical work performed by a qualified electrician. This typically involves the installation of a rotary isolator positioned 1-2 meters from the sauna. For detailed information on assembly and installation, please refer to our "Specifications | Foundations | Assembly | Electrical" tab.
