Exhibit A - Headland Hotel
The Headland Hotel is a stunning Victorian retreat located on the South West British coast. This 5-star hotel boasts breathtaking panoramic views of Newquay Beach and the surrounding coastline.
The Brief
At the end of 2019, Dynargh Design approached Alexander Rose as The Aqua Club, a new £10 million addition to the hotel, was being constructed. Designed by Lilly Lewarne Architects, The Aqua Club incorporates natural materials such as stone, granite, and a living roof to blend seamlessly with the landscape. The furniture needed to complement the curved architecture and natural colour tones throughout the spa.
The End Result
Dynargh Design chose the Cordial collection for its tactile properties and curved design features. Although the standard offerings were in grey tones, they collaborated closely with the Alexander Rose design team to select a natural stone colour rope. A combination of the iconic Cordial Surf Lounger and Cordial deep-seated lounge was selected to create a visually appealing and comfortable space. The result is a harmonious blend of aesthetics and comfort that enhances the serene atmosphere of The Aqua Club.
Exhibit B: The Spa at South Lodge
South Lodge country house hotel, majestically perched atop a hill in Horsham, offers uninterrupted views of the rolling Sussex countryside. The grounds are alive with vibrant colours, featuring magnificent rhododendrons, wisteria, and azaleas in every direction.
Adding to the allure, 2019 marked the opening of a luxurious 44,000 square foot spa, built around the natural contours of the land with a £15 million investment. Expectations were incredibly high for this long-anticipated project.
The Brief
Sparc Studios, the design consultants for the spa development, initially contacted Alexander Rose to quote for their poolside loungers. However, upon discovering that Alexander Rose could manufacture completely bespoke furniture, the brief expanded, much to their excitement.
The historical significance of the house, built by Frederick DuCane Godman, a British naturalist and plant collector in the early 1800s, inspired a botanical theme for the spa. This theme was paired with textured fabrics and complementary earthy tones.
The End Result
Despite the bespoke nature of the furniture, it was delivered in under five months, from the initial consultation to the two-day installation. Seeing the new furniture in place at this magnificent location was thrilling. Each lounger and side table brought the spa to life as the opening date approached.
Alexander Rose crafted bespoke sun loungers, opulent daybeds, sprawling sofas, and iconic 'teardrop' chairs using viro weave in two custom earthy colours, aligning with the natural theme. Beige Cordial rope furniture was added to the outdoor terrace to introduce varied textures. The same cushion fabric was used throughout to ensure continuity between the interior and exterior of the spa.
The furniture not only exudes luxury and supreme comfort but also boasts durability, allowing it to be left outside year-round with minimal maintenance. Following this successful project, Alexander Rose has collaborated with Sparc Studios on other exciting projects, including Mottram Hall and Cottonmill Spa.
Exhibit C: Aqua Sauna @ Centre Parcs
Big fluffy robes, turquoise heated pools, and a range of furniture from the San Marino collection create a perfect match at the Aqua Sauna Spa in Centre Parcs.
The Brief
For this project, Alexander Rose collaborated with the Centre Parcs Interior Design team. The team sought natural and earthy colours to blend seamlessly with the greenery used within their Aqua Sauna Spas. They selected raised, curved-shaped sunbeds in brown, made from Alexander Rose's expertly crafted San Marino pine weave, paired with fitted olefin fabric cushions in a beautiful oatmeal colour that has a natural linen feel, perfectly complementing the chair frames.
Additionally, the design team wanted to include double sun loungers to allow friends and couples to relax together. Alexander Rose's engineers created bespoke double loungers to meet this requirement.
The End Result
For the outdoor space, the team chose the popular San Marino adjustable sunbeds and lazy loungers with elegantly curved backs. Drinks can be placed on barrels repurposed as side tables. The San Marino collection offers a variety of pieces that complement each other perfectly, ideal for mix-and-match styling.
The furniture's aluminium frames are rust-proof, making them ideal for poolside, chlorinated conditions. This combination of aesthetic appeal and practical durability ensures that the Aqua Sauna Spas at Centre Parcs offer a luxurious and relaxing experience for all guests.
Exhibit D: The Treehouse at Chewton Glen
A stay at Chewton Glen, located on the edge of the New Forest National Park, is an unforgettable experience. This English country house hotel offers 130 acres of land to explore, a striking outdoor pool, a spa, a gym, and a multi-award-winning restaurant.
The Brief
Since 2011, Alexander Rose has manufactured and supplied various pieces for Chewton Glen, and the partnership has always been enjoyable. When Chewton Glen decided to furnish their four unique treehouses nestled high in the canopy, Alexander Rose was thrilled to be chosen for the project. These treehouses feature large sweeping balconies, cosy log burners, and free-standing baths, offering a luxurious and immersive experience in nature.
To ensure the treehouses blended seamlessly with their surroundings and met environmental sustainability requirements, Alexander Rose used Roble timber for the wraparound terraces. This choice not only provided a natural aesthetic but also supported sustainable sourcing from a trusted local supplier. While Roble timber is grown in managed forests in Bolivia, Alexander Rose's headquarters in Sussex are nearby, ensuring a robust and sustainable wood alternative.
The End Result
Alexander Rose supplied a range of sustainable furniture for the treehouses, including round dining tables, wide and inviting sofas, and recliner sun loungers. This furniture allows guests to relax comfortably after a dip in the hot tub, as the sun sets behind the trees. To enhance comfort, contrasting charcoal-coloured cushions made from popular waterproof Olefin fabric were chosen, enabling the cushions to remain outside during light showers.
The result is a harmonious blend of luxury, comfort, and sustainability, ensuring that guests at Chewton Glen's treehouses enjoy an exceptional and tranquil experience amidst nature.
Exhibit E: Half Moon Inn, Kirdford
The Half Moon Inn, nestled in the countryside of Kirdford, West Sussex, is a charming pub where guests instantly feel welcome and relaxed. Known for its informal, dog-friendly atmosphere, it’s a place where patrons can enjoy wholesome, home-cooked dishes by the open inglenook fireplace or in the cottage garden with a freshly pulled pint.
The Brief
In 2017, Jodie Kidd, famed English fashion model, racing car driver, and television personality, bought the pub, much to the delight of locals. As part of the subsequent refurbishment, Jodie and her team reached out to Alexander Rose to discuss their garden furniture needs for both the front and back of the pub. They were committed to using high-quality timber and local suppliers, a request Alexander Rose was happy to accommodate.
The pub, consisting of three cottages that once served as craftsmen’s workshops for the village, dates back to 1640. The team wanted to retain this homely, traditional feel while adding modern touches to ensure practicality and comfort. Flexibility was also crucial; the furniture needed to be movable to accommodate small and large groups alike.
The End Result
The project concluded with a selection from Alexander Rose's Roble collection, featuring clean and unfussy hardwood furniture, emphasising natural materials, quality timber, and exceptional craftsmanship. Smaller square and rectangular tables were paired for intimate settings, while large round Bengal pedestal tables, accommodating up to eight guests, were also incorporated. Stainless steel parasols in a beautiful beige ecru added elegance to the arrangement.
The furniture is gradually weathering to a sophisticated silvery grey, blending seamlessly with the backdrop of the charming 17th-century building. The outcome is a perfect fusion of traditional charm and modern comfort, enhancing the welcoming ambiance of the Half Moon Inn.
Alexander Rose: Environmental Considerations
Alexander Rose: Environmental Considerations
Recyclable Materials
Our suppliers over at Alexander Rose are deeply committed to sustainability and constantly strive to become more environmentally friendly. A significant aspect of this commitment lies in the materials used for packaging and their recyclability.
When Alexander Rose designs a new product, careful consideration is given to its packaging, ensuring it is as easy to recycle as possible. They avoid over-packaging and prioritise the use of recyclable materials wherever feasible.
Eco-friendly packaging is not just a buzzword for Alexander Rose. When you purchase a piece of their furniture, you can fully experience their dedication to a more responsible future.
Plastic Reduction
Alexander Rose is acutely aware of the long-lasting damage that plastic causes to our environment. It persists for years, spreads toxins, and threatens wildlife. Despite its widespread use in the manufacturing industry, Alexander Rose is committed to reducing plastic use as part of their mission to be as sustainable as possible.
When you order garden furniture from Alexander Rose, you'll notice this commitment first-hand. They use brown card and paper to wrap their products, held together with string and brown tape—far more sustainable than the industry-standard plastic wrap and cellophane tape. Instead of foam and plastic film, they use corrugated cardboard or butt roll. Even in their office, only environmentally friendly cleaning products are used.
Alexander Rose's dedication to plastic reduction is integral to their identity and values, and they continually strive to improve wherever they can.

See here: Alexander Rose Personalised Bench Engravings (Contact us)
Timber Furniture
How do I remove food and drink stains from my timber furniture?
To remove food and drink stains, clean the table top with a stiff brush and warm soapy water, or use Timber Cleaner. After cleaning, apply a layer of our Timber Shield to provide a protective layer that repels liquids.
Do you supply treatments for your furniture?
Yes, we provide treatments for our timber furniture. Refer to our Alexander Rose Treatment Guide to choose the best treatment for your furniture. Treatments can be purchased directly from us.
See here: Alexander Rose Treatment and Cleaning Kits
Can I jet wash my furniture?
Jet washing will not harm the durability of hardwood furniture but may remove the surface layer and lift the wood grain, resulting in a rough texture. For a smooth finish, lightly sand the surface with grit 80 sandpaper after cleaning. For the best results, use our Cleaner with a stiff brush before sanding.
How do I retain the appearance of my white painted furniture?
Our white Acacia furniture has a satin matt finish from two coats of polyurethane paint. Over time, hairline cracks may appear due to the timber expanding and contracting. To maintain its original condition, sand the affected area down to the natural timber, then reapply an even coat of white polyurethane paint. This paint can be purchased from any DIY or hardware store.
Why is my Sherwood furniture finish rough?
The Sherwood range is designed with a textured, rough finish achieved through deliberate distressing with a wire brush before the final coat is applied.
I have small cracks appearing in my hardwood furniture – is this normal?
Yes, natural cracks occur in timber due to climatic variations, causing the wood to expand and contract. This does not affect the furniture's durability. Cracks on the ends of hardwood furniture are normal as minerals and salts evaporate. These cracks, more noticeable in hot weather, do not affect the stability of the furniture. However, if a 10p coin fits into the crack, it may be a manufacturing fault. Contact us for advice.
Why is my pine furniture developing cracks?
Cracks in pine furniture are normal due to the rapid moisture loss during the kiln-drying process. This is a common characteristic of pine and does not affect the durability of the furniture.
What if my furniture has an uneven end or slats that have moved?
Wood naturally expands and contracts with temperature and humidity changes. This movement does not affect the strength or durability of the product.
Will my painted furniture weather?
Yes, painted distressed furniture will naturally weather, developing a silvery grey effect over 2-3 years. You can use Timber Sealer annually to prolong its appearance.
Why is there black spotting on my wooden furniture?
Black spotting from mould and mildew is a cosmetic issue and doesn’t affect the strength of the furniture. It can be treated with a mould and mildew cleaner or left to weather naturally.
Why are there watermarks on my wooden furniture?
Watermarks are common when new and will not weaken the bench. They can be treated by washing and sun-drying the affected area.
Bees and wasps are nesting in my wooden furniture.
Bees and wasps can use wood for their nests. To prevent this, clean your furniture with a product containing citronella.
Woven & Rope Weave Furniture
What is the frame under the weave made from?
The structure of all woven furniture including the Cordial collection, are made from fully welded, powder-coated aluminium frames, providing strength and durability, which are available in grey or beige to match the rope.
What are the table tops in the weave ranges made from?
The weave tables feature hardened safety glass attached with rubber suckers or stoppers to prevent movement.
Can I leave my Cordial rope furniture out all year round?
Yes, our Cordial rope furniture can be left out year-round. The marine-grade 100% olefin braided rope has a solid rubber core, ensuring it does not become saturated and dries quickly after rain. Clean the rope with warm soapy water and a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive cleaners.
Do I need to cover my woven furniture over the winter?
No, our woven furniture can be left outside year-round without requiring a cover. However, covering it with our furniture covers when not in use can protect it from dust and dirt. The cushions on our San Marino, Ocean Pearl, and Monte Carlo ranges are not waterproof and should be stored in a dry place during bad weather.
See our outdoor covers here: Alexander Rose Outdoor Covers
Is it normal for the weave on my table to sag?
Yes, outdoor woven furniture weave reacts to ambient conditions, becoming stiffer in cold weather and more elastic in heat. This does not affect product quality or performance.
Metal Furniture
How do the Beach modules connect together?
The Beach modules connect using metal connector plates fixed to the furniture with a wing nut and bolt. These are easy to remove when you want to change the module configuration.
Can the top layer of the printed glass peel away on my Rimini table?
No, the glaze and ink are melted into the glass at 700°C, making the top layer resistant to peeling under normal conditions. It has been factory-tested to withstand sharp objects without peeling.
Will my Portofino rust from corrosion?
All metal furniture degrades over time, but Alexander Rose offers a 5-year warranty on the Portofino range. The furniture is chemically treated, primed, and powder-coated to prevent rust.
How do I maintain my Portofino furniture?
To keep your Portofino furniture in top condition, clean it annually using warm soapy water. Use a damp cloth and mild detergent, avoiding bleach and abrasive cleaners. For fly rust, clean it off with WD40.
How do I get rid of scratches and scuffs from the Portofino frames?
Use an abrasive hand pad for metal, such as Scotch Brite, to gently rub over the damaged area until repaired. This method will not work on deep scratches.
Parasols & Bases
My table does not have a parasol hole, how do I protect myself from the sun?
For tables without a parasol hole, we offer four types of cantilever parasols that are free-standing. This allows you to position the parasol to provide shade without needing a central pole. The crank mechanism makes them easy to use.
To view our parasols, click here (to view Alexander Rose parasols, select "Alexander Rose" under the "brand" filter): Parasols
What size parasol do I need for my table?
It’s recommended that the parasol size is roughly double the size of your table. For a 1.5M table, a 3.0M parasol is ideal. For a 1.8M table, consider a 3.0M or 3.5M parasol.
What base do I need if my parasol isn't going through a table?
Alexander Rose recommends using their central pole parasols through a table for added support. If using them free-standing, the GB30 Granite Base 30KG is suitable. Remember, their parasols are designed for sun-shade use and should not be left up in windy conditions as this may void the warranty.
To view our parasols, click here (to view Alexander Rose parasols, select "Alexander Rose" under the "brand" filter): Parasols
How do I clean my parasol canopy?
To clean your canopy, keep the fabric attached to the frame and use a soft brush or broom with warm soapy water. For more stubborn stains, remove the canopy and wash it at 30°C on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Reattach the canopy to the frame while wet and allow it to dry in the sun.
Is my parasol waterproof?
No, our parasols are designed as sun shades and are not waterproof. They should be taken down in windy conditions.
What are the metal rods in my parasol’s night cover?
The three rods in the parasol's box are night cover assisting rods. These can be joined together and inserted into the opening above the zip pull on the cover, making it easier to position the night cover over the parasol.
Cushions
Are my cushions waterproof?
Our standard cushions (olefin and polyester) are water-resistant but not waterproof. We recommend storing them in a dry place when not in use. Cushions from our Beach, Cordial, Dana, Rimini, and Sorrento ranges are made using water-resistant fabric with a waterproof interliner, allowing them to withstand light showers.
However, the surface fabric will get wet and dry quickly in the sun. During heavy rainfall and over winter, it is best to store all cushions in a dry place. Proper maintenance includes drying out the insides if they get wet by removing the cover and drying completely before reusing.
See our outdoor cushion covers here: Alexander Rose Outdoor Covers
Can I put my cushion covers in the washing machine?
We do not recommend machine washing olefin and polyester cushions, as it can cause the FR backing to come off the fabric. Instead, clean them with our Fabric Cleaner and a microfibre cloth. Cushions in our Beach, Sorrento, Dana, Cordial, and Cordial Luxe ranges, made from Kvadrat fabric, can be machine washed at 30 degrees using a mild detergent on a gentle cycle.
What is the filling of my Beach cushions?
The cushions are filled with soft hollow fibre inside a breathable polypropylene interliner, providing durability and comfort while maintaining shape.
Miscellaneous Questions
Why am I getting electric shocks from my woven furniture?
Static build-up from shoes, fabrics, or artificial grass can cause shocks. Wipe the furniture with an anti-static sheet like a tumble dryer sheet.
Which Bolt Down Anchor do I require for my furniture?
Alexander Rose offers soft ground anchors for lawns and hard ground anchors for concrete. Soft ground anchors use brass plates and curved flukes for stability, while hard ground anchors require a 20mm masonry drill bit.
See our anchor kits here: Alexander Rose Anchor Kits
Are the FC furniture covers waterproof?
Our furniture covers are not waterproof; they are designed to protect garden furniture from dust and dirt. Made from breathable Polyester, these covers allow air circulation, preventing mould and mildew. For rain protection, create a tent effect by placing a bucket upside down on your table or leaving the bottom pole of your parasol in the table to allow rainwater to run off and prevent pooling.
What is meant by ‘normal wear and tear’?
Normal wear and tear includes dents, scratches, and the expected weathering process such as fading, cracking, and splitting of hardwood products.
